What is Qwo?
Qwo is the first and only injectable FDA approved for treating moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. It is administered in our office by Dr. Kaado over a series of 3 treatments, each spaced 21 days apart. Qwo is minimally invasive and requires no incisions and no recovery downtime.
How does Qwo work?
Qwo comprises two naturally occurring enzymes that target the fibrous tissue bands that cause the dimpling in cellulite. Often referred to as cottage cheese or orange peel-like appearance of the skin, cellulite most often occurs on the buttocks, thighs, and arms due to various factors, including hormonal and genetic reasons.
A strong contributing factor in cellulite is fibrous bands beneath the skin that tether the skin to the underlying muscles. These bands, called fibrous septae, are comprised of collagen type I and type III.
The naturally occurring enzymes in Qwo specifically target and break down these collagen types, effectively dissolving the bands that cause the dimple-like valleys and depressions in cellulite.
Before and After
What areas of the body can Qwo be used?
Qwo is currently FDA approved for the treatment of cellulite in the buttocks. Trials are ongoing now in their use, treating other areas where cellulite commonly occurs. Qwo may also be used in the thighs and upper arms as off-label use, providing Dr. Kaado prescribes and administers it for that use, and the patient is aware that its use is an off-label one.
When will I see the results of Qwo?
Patients can expect to start seeing an improvement in their cellulite as little as three weeks after their injections. The active ingredients in Qwo work to enzymatically cut or dissolve the fibrous septae that contribute to cellulite, and this process is generally complete within 60 days.
Is Qwo safe and effective?
Yes! A global pharmaceutical leader manufactures qwo, and during its development, Qwo went through the most extensive clinical trials ever conducted on cellulite. Improvements in cellulite were visible and dramatic, and patient satisfaction rates were high.
How many treatments will I need?
Qwo is administered over a series of 3 treatments, each of which is spaced 21 days apart. At each treatment session, 12 cellulite dimples can be treated per check; 24 dimples in all.
What is recovery like from Qwo?
No downtime is required after Qwo treatments, and patients can return to their work or social activities immediately afterward. As the treatment area will be bruised, patients will likely want to postpone beach trips and other activities where the buttocks are exposed.
What side effects can I expect?
The main side effect of Qwo is going to be some very obvious bruising at injection sites. This begins to appear within 24 to 48 hours after the injection and may last for 14 to 21 days. Other side effects include itching, redness, and slight swelling in the area. At each new treatment session, the side effects get less obvious and clear up faster.
